After all that last night, I still seem to be very reactive to this subject today. I want to spew insults at people. Like the people that Jimmy Kimmel found on the street that didn't know the difference between Obamacare and the Affordable Healthcare Act. (Hint: they're the same thing.) Can't we just say out loud that we are not informed enough on the subject to comment? Can't we just pass up inflammatory crap on Facebook so as to at least not make it worse by spreading it?
I'd never claim to be well-versed at any subject related to politics or government. All I want is to see people sharing what they found when they did their latest Google search. I Googled 'federal deficit' and immediately had historical data compiled since the birth of our country. I Googled 'big ass wasp' the other day, no fucking joke, and found a picture and description of the gargantuan nasty-ass wasp my honey sprayed in the back yard. It's just not that hard. So how do we keep finding ourselves deeper and deeper in spewage?
Well, many years ago someone warned us that if we got too lazy we'd be the easiest country in the world to take over. We'd be so stupid and fat that we'd just invite invaders in. Hmmm. One of those things we learned in kindergarten was to share our stuff, and the other thing was not be a doormat, and to do well in school so as not to be a doornail. Well, at least if you went to kindergarten before 1980 you might have learned that.
I'm just so frustrated. Tired of bullshit. Wanting everyone to be their best, instead of settling for situations in life that other people say are all you can expect, all you can ever hope for. Bullshit. Shut up. You, shut up, and you, wise up. Both sides are so wrong that there is no where to go to get away anymore. Well, maybe Canada. Or remote Montana. Nope, not there, they have ninnernet, pretty much.
I used to think that smart people would just quietly keep putting things right. They would go to work in the morning and make a little money, make their best decisions even if they weren't always easy and didn't always seem to make a difference. They would love their babies, keep their houses clean, take care of the people they love even if they're stupid or sick.
Where does wealth come from? Why do we need it? Why do we need to mine gold? Why do we burn fossil fuels? If your fuel doesn't come from the earth, where does it come from? If we (humans) dig up rare earth in China, poisoning millions, is it alright to embrace the wind turbines that require the material here in the US? Is there anything that a human being uses for basic needs that does not require the death of a plant or animal, or the rearranging of minerals? If you want a battery to store sunlight for energy, you have to mine something to make the battery. If you want to burn wood to cook and keep warm you must cut down a tree. You can plant another one, it will grow. If you want to eat, you must pick a fruit or vegetable, thereby eliminating it's chance to reproduce and make more, or kill a wild fish, or a domesticated cow. It's a nice sentiment to give up leaving a footprint, but how far are you going to go? What is sustainable for everyone?
And these questions are the questions of people who are not desperately poor. Try this little mental experiment while putting yourself in the shoes of billions of people around the world in this and other countries who do not have the money to access running water, natural gas, electricity, or warm clothes. When you are hungry like that, you thank your maker every time you get to murder a plant or edible animal. No one but your maker cares to feed you when you have no money. While governments, rich folks, and bored housewives squabble over how best to spend THEIR money for themselves and 'for' those less fortunate, poor folks around the world focus on the little daily tasks that may preserve life for today. If only the rest of us would get out of the way, there would be mines to operate with the world's impressive technology to keep the water clean and the land productive. We've learned so many lessons about taking care of the land/earth, and we can't get out of our own way long enough to pick up and go. We've gotten dumb, lost all sense of sense. Lost touch with the way the earth works, the cycles of day and night, life and death.
The banana bread is out of the oven. I'll take my rambling brain to bed now. Tomorrow's another day. I have a small job in a small city, and I blessed with the ability to pay for the things I need - heat, water, shelter, food. All this other crap is superfluous, and I'll remind myself of that throughout the day in many ways. One of them is not by giving it all up, but by staying aware of where it comes from, who it touches, how it all works. Never loose touch.
